Coles offers a range of credit cards with rewards, low rate and no annual fee options. If you're a member of the Flybuys rewards program, your Coles credit card can also double as your Flybuys membership card.
Coles was recognised in the 2024 Finder Credit Card Awards, with the Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard named as highly commended in the Best No Annual Fee Rewards Credit Card category and Coles Rewards Mastercard in the Best Rewards Credit Card category.
The Coles Rewards Mastercard gives you a way to earn Flybuys points on all your eligible spending, anywhere Mastercard is accepted. It offers 2 Flybuys points per $1 spent on all eligible purchases up to $3,000 per statement period and 1 point per $1 up to $8,000 per statement period. When you shop at Coles and other Flybuys partners, you'll also earn points through your Flybuys membership.
Coles low rate credit cards
The Coles Low Rate Mastercard has a low interest rate of 13.49% p.a. for purchases, which is competitive with other low rate credit cards. Unlike most low rate cards in Australia, it also offers rewards, earning an equivalent to 0.5 Flybuys points per $1 spent at Coles Supermarkets – on top of the points earned by scanning your Flybuys membership barcode.
Coles no annual fee credit cards
The Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard is one of the few credit cards in Australia that offers no annual fee and rewards. This means you can get extra value from the card without wondering if your reward points will balance out the cost of the annual fee.
It offers an equivalent 0.5 Flybuys points per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $5,000 per statement period and anywhere you use the card as well as the usual Flybuys points you earn for spending with partnered retailers. Points are awarded in whole numbers and are rounded down, meaning you earn 1 point per $2 spent with this card.
The benefits of getting a credit card with Coles Mastercard
Each Coles Mastercard credit card has different features, but these are the ones you'll get with any of them:
Flybuys rewards
Coles credit cards have your Flybuys membership details printed on the back of them, so you only have to pull out one card at the check out. The Coles Low Rate Mastercard also offers points per $1 spent on eligible purchases at Coles Supermarkets, and both the Coles Rewards and Coles No Annual Fee cards also earn points for eligible purchases you make anywhere (even if it's not a Flybuys partner).
Get money off your shopping at Coles
If you want to use rewards to save on your supermarket shopping, you can you can redeem a minimum of 2,000 Flybuys points for $10 off at participating Coles Supermarkets. Known as Flybuys Dollars, you can also use this reward to get money off shopping at other partners including Kmart, Target and Coles Express.
Balance transfer offers
You can save money on your existing credit card debt by transferring it to a Coles Mastercard with a balance transfer offer. For example, the Coles Low Rate Mastercard offers 0% p.a. on balance transfers for the first 15 months you have the card. But keep in mind that any balance remaining after the promotional period will attract interest at the cash advance rate.
Digital wallets and contactless payments
You can make payments from your smartphone or eligible device with any of these mobile wallets:
Apple Pay
Google Pay
Samsung Pay
Coles Mobile Wallet App
This app gives you a way to keep track of your spending, put a temporary lock on your card, make BPAY payments, check your Flybuys balance and manage other account details. If you prefer to use a web browser, you can also manage your account through the Coles Online Service Centre.
Credit card instalment plans
Coles credit cards offer three types of instalment plans, which give you a way to pay off your credit card balance over a set period of time, with fixed monthly repayments that can make it easier to budget. The options available depend on the type of spending or balance and are subject to eligibility.
Plan
Description
Statement instalments
Convert retail purchases from your closing balance into a structured payment plan, with a minimum of $500 and monthly instalment repayments.
Transaction instalments
Convert new shopping to a payment plan before it shows up on your statement. You can do this with any eligible purchase over $50.
Cash instalments
Access a minimum of $500 and up to 90% of your available credit limit as cash for bills, study or anything else you need and pay it off in instalments. This option is similar to a small personal loan, but make sure you check the rates and fees so you know how much it will cost before you get it.
You can check if you're eligible for an instalment plan by calling Coles Mastercard on 1300 066 985. Once a plan is set up, you'll see details on your credit card statement. Learn more about using instalment plans on a credit card to see if they'll work for you.
Security
These cards offer 24/7 account security through Coles Shield and Mastercard Zero Liability for fraudulent transactions.
Eligibility criteria
Before you can get a Coles credit card, there are a few eligibility boxes you need to tick. Each card has its own list of criteria, but these are the ones you'll need to meet for all of them:
Age. You must be at least 18 years of age.
Residency status. You must be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia.
How long does it take to apply?
You can apply for a Coles Mastercard online in about 10 minutes if you have all the details you need ready. Once you submit the application form, you'll also get a response within 60 seconds.
Information and documents you need to apply
During the application, you'll need to provide a mix of details about your personal and financial situation. This includes:
Personal details. Your full name, date of birth, contact details, family situation and whether you rent or own your home. You also need to verify your identity by providing details from your driver’s licence or passport.
Financial details. Your income and assets, including savings or investment returns. Plus your share of regular expenses such as mortgage payments, rent, utility bills and supermarket shopping.
Details if you're employed full-time or part-time. Your main occupation, type of employment and your employer's contact details. Plus supporting documentation, such as your two most recent payslips, bank statements showing your income or your most recent Tax Assessment Notice.
If you're employed casually. Details about your main occupation and employer's contact details, plus supporting documentation such as your two most recent payslips, your most recent individual tax return or a signed letter from your employer that confirms your employment status, length of employment and your gross income (dated in the last 30 days).
If you're a contractor. Details about your main occupation and employer's contact details, with a copy of your signed employment contract. Plus supporting documentation such as your two most recent payslips, your most recent individual tax return or a signed letter from your employer that confirms your employment status, length of employment and your gross income (dated in the last 30 days).
If you're self-employed. Your accountant's name, the accountancy firm and their contact number. You also need to include your two most recent Tax Assessment Notices (prepared or audited by an accountant). If you don't have these documents, you could submit your two most recent Individual Tax Returns and two most recent Individual Notices of Assessment from the Australian Taxation Office.
If you're retired or on a pension. Details about your finances and supporting documentation such as your most recent pension statement, an annual superannuation statement with an indexed pension amount, a letter from Centrelink or three months of personal bank statements showing regular credits or cash deposits.
Get income from a mix of sources? Include as much supporting documentation as possible for your application. Or, call Coles on 1300 265 727 to talk about your situation.
Credit card details
During the application, you'll also be asked about details of your new credit card. The two key details to look at are:
Current Flybuys number. You can include your Flybuys membership number on the application so that your details are printed on the back of your Coles credit card if your application's approved. If you're not a Flybuys member, you can also join for free by visiting the Flybuys website – and can update the Flybuys details linked to your card through the Coles Online Service Centre.
Credit limit. If you have a credit limit in mind, you can include that as part of the application. Note that Coles will offer you a credit limit based on its assessment of your application, which could be lower than the one you've requested.
Balance transfers. If you're moving a debt to a new Coles card with a 0% balance transfer rate, you need to include the account details and the amount of debt you want to transfer. Just keep in mind that the balance transfer is approved separately and the amount that's transferred depends on the credit limit you get for your new Coles card.
What happens after you apply?
When you submit your completed application form, you'll get a response within 60 seconds giving you an initial outcome. Coles will also send you an email with a summary and application reference number. You'll also get details about providing more supporting documentation (if that's needed).
Credit card brands similar to Coles Mastercard
If you want a rewards card or brand-related perks, here are 3 other credit card providers you could compare with Coles:
Coles credit cards are issued by NAB, after it acquired Citi's consumer banking business on 1 June 2022. But the card branding and your day-to-day account management is typically through Coles.
People with Coles credit card accounts that were opened before 2018 may have had their details compromised by the 2023 Latitude cyber attack. This is because Latitude Financial was the former issuer of Coles credit cards. Latitude Financial has said it is in the process of contacting people affected by the cyber attack and is posting updates on the Latitude website.
Your Coles credit card account would not be affected by the Latitude cyber attack if you opened it in 2018 or later, after Citigroup (and now NAB) became the issuer of Coles credit cards.
You can call the Coles customer support team on 1300 306 397 or use the live chat service when you have logged in to your online account. The Coles website also has an online, email contact form.
If you want to contact Coles specifically about financial hardship, call 1800 931 356 or email hardship@secure.coles.com.au.
You can activate your Coles credit card through the Coles Mobile Wallet app or Coles Online Service Centre by logging in and following the prompts. Or, call 1300 306 397.
You can make a payment to your Coles Mastercard using the details on your statement. The different options include:
Direct debit. By completing and sending in a direct debit request form (available from the Coles website), you can automatically pay your Coles Mastercard when your statement is issued. You have the option of paying just the minimum monthly repayment, a specified amount or you can automatically pay your entire balance each month. You need to pay your Coles Mastercard from another bank’s transaction or savings account.
BPAY. Log on to your internet banking facility and pay your Coles Mastercard using BPAY. The Coles Mastercard BPAY Biller Code is 8862 and your customer reference number is your 16 digit Coles Mastercard account number. Note that BPAY payments are only processed during business hours and can take up to three business days to process. Transactions made over the weekend and on public holidays may take a little longer to process.
At an Australia Post retail outlet. Pay your credit card in person by taking your Coles Mastercard statement to an Australia Post retail outlet. Remember that there’s a small fee if you want to pay your Coles Mastercard in person at Australia Post.
By cheque. You can find a payment slip issued with you Coles Mastercard statement. Rip this off and send it with a cheque to Coles Mastercard Customer Care, GPO Box 236E, Melbourne, VIC, 8111.
You can make payments at any time, but will always need to pay at least the minimum amount listed on your statement by the due date. The minimum repayment is usually the lesser of $30 or 2% of the balance. Otherwise, a late payment fee will apply.
If you want to increase or lower your credit limit, call the Coles Mastercard customer service team on 1300 306 397.
Keep in mind that your credit limit is based on how much you can afford to repay, so if you accepted the maximum credit limit when you applied for a Coles Mastercard and your circumstances have not changed, you may not be eligible for a credit limit increase.
You can close your Coles Mastercard account by logging in to the Online Service Centre and going to the "Manage My Card" section. Or, call the Coles customer service team on 1300 306 397. Just make sure you don’t owe any money on your card.
Coles only offers Mastercard credit cards. But both Mastercard and Visa cards offer worldwide acceptance and similar ways to pay.
Yes, you can use a Coles credit card to pay for shopping at Woolworths or anywhere else that accepts Mastercard payments. With the Coles Rewards Mastercard and Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard, you'll even earn Flybuys points per $1 on eligible spending.

I have a Coles Platinum Mastercard. I understand the Fly Buys bit but am confused about points that can be earned by using the card to pay for all sorts of things which have nothing to do with the Wesfarmers stable of outlets. For example all utilities, Council rates, petrol, freeway tolls, health insurance etc are paid using the Coles Mastercard. Last moths tally was over $6k. How do I get rewarded for this ?

Hi Philip,
It depends on the type of Coles Mastercard you have – you could use the table here to see which one you have. If you have a Coles Rewards Mastercard or a Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard, you’ll automatically earn points per $1 on all eligible spending, whether it’s a Flybuys partner or not. But the key is that it does have to be “eligible spending” – a definition that covers most retail purchases (including petrol). Your Flybuys account should show details of when you’ve earned points with the card, in the “activity” section.
Transactions that aren’t eligible to earn points include BPAY payments and government-related transactions, which can include council rates, vehicle registration fees, tolls, parking meters and even transactions at Australia Post. These are examples included in the Coles Mastercard Rewards Terms and Conditions, which has full details.
It’s also worth noting that the Coles Low Rate Mastercard only offers additional points at Coles Supermarkets. I hope that helps!

Important information about this website
finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.

Hi Janene,
I just took a look at the PDS, and Coles doesn’t offer complimentary travel insurance on this card. If you have a Platinum card, you’ll have complimentary warranty extension and purchase protection insurance.
If you’re looking for travel insurance that gives you the coverage you need in context of your hip, you can get a quote here.
